Merloo is, I very much hope, instantly recognisable
as a red kangaroo (Macropus rufus). They are such unique looking animals with their long ears and tail and
big, big feet!
I created him from a combination of Schulte synthetic and mini bear fabrics.
He has been stuffed with Bouncifil with a small amount of rubber pellets
in his tail and a bag of plastic pellets in his tummy (for added weight). He has internal wire armature in his
limbs (all the way down to the tips of his individual fingers and toes) and neck/back/tail for posing. Merloo has
high quality realistic glass taxidermy eyes set into specially constructed eye sockets ringed with leather cord.
His nose and claws have been sculpted from polymer clay with wire backs to allow for secure attachment
and his mouth is constructed using perle cotton thread. Merloo has been scissor sculpted and hand shaded
using an airbrush. There is an Arcas Designs fabric tag sewn in just under his tail.
Although he is a young kangaroo (a joey) he is still a little chap comapred
to his wild cousins, measuring just under 12" (30cm) in height and approximately 10" (25cm) nose to bottom plus
an additional 8" (20cm) tail length.
