My first avian creation!
Otus is an Eastern Screech Owl, Megascops
asio, these are small nocturnal owls that are widespread throughout north America.
Otus was created using a combination of Schulte faux fur, mini bear synthetic
fabrics and ultrasuede. He has been filled with a combination of bouncifill and plastic pellets in his tummy (for little added weight). He has a jointed neck and wire armature in his wings
and legs (including his talons) for poseability. He has beautiful
realistic glass taxidermy eyes that have been set into specially constructed sockets, ringed by waxed cotton cord lids.
His beak and claws have been sculpted from polymer clay with wire backs for secure attachment. They have also been painted and sealed
with a layer of matt varnish.
Otus has been scissor sculpted and his feather markings have been painstakingly hand shaded using
an airbrush. There are machine sewn feather details on the wings and tail.
Otus measures approximately 6.5" in height, 4" wide and 7.5" from head to tail. Last but not least,
Otus has an Arcas Designs fabric tag sewn in under his tail.
