Yepa is a special order snowshoe hare (Lepus
americanus) otherwise known as the varying hare. These animals have the ability to change the colour of their fur
depending on the season, brown in the summer and white in the winter. They have enormous rear feet to help prevent
them sinking into the snow in winter. Their feet are also furry on the undersides to keep the soles of their feet warm in
the freezing temperatures. Brrrr! Yepa is a Native American name meaning winter princess.
Yepa has been created from all white Schulte synthetic fabrics. She has
been firmly stuffed with bouncifill and a bag of plastic pellets sits in her tummy for added weight.
Her front and back legs have internal armature for posing and there is an additional wire 'spine' running down from
her head to her little button tail. Each paw has individual toes (the rear ones have been wired too).
Yepa has
beautiful high quality glass taxidermy eyes set into specially constructed eye sockets with cotton cord 'lids'. Her
nose and mouth have been highlighted using perle cotton thread and her whiskers are dyed horsehair.
Yepa has
been scissor sculpted and has been delicately hand shaded using an airbrush. There is an Arcas Designs fabric tag sewn in
just above her tail. She measures 12.5" from the tip of her ears to the base of her paws and approximately
14" from nose to tail.
Last but not least Yepa wears
a beautiful red velvet collar which can be removed if wished. It has been adorned with a sprig of holly.
The holly has been created from ultrasuede, wire for shaping and coral beads to represent the berries.
